Another Student suicides: UoH to take preventive measures
In the latest incident that took place at the University of Hyderabad (UoH), a first-year MA student, Rajneesh Parmar committed suicide on August 8.
The University of Hyderabad (UoH) authorities are set to take measures to prevent depression among students on campus, following three suicides reported in a span of four months.
The suicide of Rajneesh Parmar, first-year MA student, is the latest incident that struck UoH on August 8. Last month, an MSc secondyear student jumped from a high-rise residential building after attending classes. In May, a woman PhD scholar from Odisha committed suicide by self-immolation. While all three suicides were following a bout of depression, UoH authorities and students’ community have joined hands to tackle the issue. “We as a university would like to reiterate that we will continue to do our best to make student life on campus better, safer and more productive,” read a UoH statement.
On Friday, a play titled ‘life-line’ is organised by a group Angelos to spread awareness about depression. With freshers meet scheduled on Friday, authorities have planned to make students aware of in-house mechanisms to deal with various issues.
