WhatsApp picture-in-picture (PiP) feature could soon be available for Android users as well with integration of YouTube and Instagram videos. According to a WABetaInfo report, the feature is available for WhatsApp Android beta version 2.18.234, though it is currently under development and has not been enabled for beta testers. The report adds that the feature “needs to get many other improvements” before it can be made available.

It is basically a multi-window mode that allows users to play videos in playback as well as navigate between the apps. The floating window can be dragged anywhere on the screen.

WhatsApp has been testing this feature for a very long time. According to WaBetaInfo, a fan site of WhatsApp, PiP mode in WhatsApp will allow users to play Instagram and YouTube videos in WhatsApp. PiP mode is already available for WhatsApp for iOS.

The WaBetaInfo report explains that users will see a play symbol on the thumbnail preview when they receive any video. Tapping on the play symbol will show videos in PiP mode allowing users to navigate in the chat. This is for both Instagram or YouTube videos. However, it doesn’t work for videos posted on Instagram Stories.

The feature is under works and is expected to launch by the end of this month.
