CA Reviews Andre’s BBL Bat and Re-Approves

In the world of Cricket, cricket bats make a lot of news. This is all about hitting sixes, fours, and runs and so on. However, there is one bat that was talked about a lot during the T20 BBL (Big Bash League) in Australia. This black bat with a pink colored belonged to cricketer Andre Russell.  On Tuesday, the Cricket Australia (CA) made modifications and have allowed the West Indies player to use his bat. In last weeks’ opening Big Bash League against the Sydney Sixers, the Cricket Australia gave an all clear for the Sydney Thunder Star to hit with the bat. Upon receiving feedback from the match officials that the funky bat was leaving marks on the match ball they went back on their stand. However, as per the latest updates, the BBL officials said that Andre Russell will be able to resume using his painted bat.

They reviewed the modifications made to the painted bat and gave the all-clear to the player to use his bat. The painted bat was modified with a laminated covering. The BBL Chief Anthony Everard said, “Following feedback from the match officials that the bat used by Andre on the opening night of the season left black marks on the match ball, he has worked with his bat manufacturer to modify the bat. A clear laminate cover has been applied to the bat which complies with regulations to ensure the ball discoloration does not occur again.” As per the BBL Regulations if the bat color is the same as their team’s primary kit color or black it is ok.  The Cricket Australia said they reserve the discretion to deny any approvals. The umpires can also request for a player change if they believe it affects the match’s integrity.
