Govt Seeks Apology From Ghulam Nabi Azad
On 17th of November, 2016 the Parliament was set on fire when the leader of the opposition Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad compared the death of citizens due to the demonetization to the deaths of Sri attack.
“Pakistani terrorists did not kill even half of our people in Uri than those who have died due to Govt’s wrong policy,” said Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad and he added that “Till the PM comes to the house for discussion we will not let the house function”.
These words angered Mr.Venkaiah Nadu and he responded saying “Leader of Opposition is insulting the nation by making such remarks, by comparing this with Pakistan terror attacks, should apologise”.
Though the focus of the opposition was to bring the point of demonetization for discussion , the leaders stalled the house of Parliament by entering into the well and shouting out slogans for the presence of the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Finally, after the house, Mr.Ghulam Nabi Azadi has brought the clarification saying “It was just to compare the Number of deaths caused due to the policies and the opposition is just labelling all those people who question the government as Anti-Nationalists”.
After a while, Mr.Venkaiah Naidu obtained an extract of Ghulam Nabi Azad speech in the upper house of Parliament and read out to the media and clearly mentioned the lines which were spoken by Mr.Azad.
He didn’t want to react any further upon that in front of the media saying that those words have grievously hurt him and he sent out a signal that the Government is always ready to accept the recommendations in terms of policy.
Finally, he ended the press conference saying that ” Whatever was spoken by Mr.Ghulam Nabi Azad is completely wrong and it is against the national interest, and if the opposition wants to make any policy wise recommendations , we are ready to accept them”. He also sought a clearly standing of the Congress about its official position on the issue.
