HTC all set to widen the horizon of Virtual Reality


    Virtual reality has been new in thing from a quite a lot of time. We may see it in gaming zone, in the armed forces and the field of robotics as well. But now the current big challenge for virtual reality is to work in large environments. The next though still impractical dream for the future, however, is likely to be multi-room experiences, where users can wander between one room to another and go to different connected spaces without any issues or without changing the headgear. This may probably still be a couple of years away, but HTC with its new technology has shown a small example of how it could work, with it showcasing a video featuring a Vive Pro, and a beta of SteamVR 2.0.
    The footage of the same was shared and then further populated on Twitter by Vive China President, first with a series of images showing 16 2.0 base stations linked together via SteamVR and covering more than one room. He then came up with another video showing a user wearing the Vive Pro headset and moving between three different rooms, each with two 2.0 base stations. The user moves seamlessly around the space in VR, locating tracked objects placed in the rooms.
    Unfortunately, this experience is nowhere near available to consumers as of yet.  SteamVR on the first place is still limited to tracking from four base stations at a time only, as pointed out by Valve’s Alan Yates. Second, there’s no way to purchase all the equipment used in the setup as it will become expensive. The Vive Pro bundle is the only way to get two of Valve’s 2.0 base stations, and there’s no word on if Valve or HTC plans to sell them individually.
    It may have taken your expectations down a thousand folds suddenly, but still, it’s a fun example of how technology may be sparkling bring regarding virtual reality.
